Environmental Initiatives
Overview
Metropolitan Recycling is committed to the principle of sustainability and has undertaken a number of initiatives to demonstrate that commitment.
Of paramount importance to protecting and sustaining the earth’s ecology, by collecting, sorting, processing and recycling material, Metropolitan Recycling constantly diverts recyclable material from being deposited into landfills. More than 160,000 tons per year are diverted from landfills. Our percentage of residual material is less than 7%.
Of equal importance to sustaining the earth’s environment, Metropolitan Recycling continues to add vehicles fueled by clean-burning natural gas. To date, six trucks fueled by natural gas have become an important part of our fleet.
To practice energy conservation within our own facility, Metropolitan Recycling is installing rooftop solar panels equipped with photovoltaic cells, which will reduce our energy consumption by 33%.

Our bright pink truck, emblazoned with the For The Cure message and bright pink ribbon, rolls around New York City every day as a visible and constant reminder of the need to find a cure for this terrible disease.
